Another update, AOL now.

IMPORTANT: AOL Software Update 4517.12.4 fixes security vulnerabilities and technical issues of the AOL software that you use. Please install this FREE update as soon as you are notified of it.

The AOL Software Update mechanism eliminates the need to manually download software updates (patches). Whenever there is a need to update the AOL software, the patch is downloaded in the background, thereby minimizing the impact of the download on your online experience. Once the download is complete, you will be prompted to install the software update.
========================================================================
Now AOL is getting in the habit it looks like. It's been a while now since Adobe has updated anything, or, have they been doing it behind my back. Like my time isn't interrupted enough. How 'bout yours?
I just previewed this post and this blogger is putting a time stamp of 4:46 AM but, it's 7:46 AM here in Florida, EST. I should not expect perfection I guess. It's just not the norm anymore.

Hi, Paul in Tampa. Can you please tell me if this update (4517.12.4) is legitimate? The prompt graphics with the "little blue monster" are none like I have seen before. I'm not real computer savvy so I would appreciate your thumbs up or thumbs down on the update. Thanks so much. - Connie in CA.

When I tried the download the patch and the blue monster came up, I tried to stop it, but when I rebooted it claimed to be a Java update, and after a scan Norton said it installed a Download VIRUS which I had to delete manually. I don't think it is legitimate.

Go to AOL and manually download the security update so there is no question.

All I know is my AVG Internet Security suite has never done me no wrong. It scans everything coming into this computer and it didn't report any findings with that update and I have not had a problem since the update. I'm not sure what 'the little blue monster' is you are talking about. As for Norton, hah, I had my fill of that crap software long ago. That's why I did some research and came up with AVG as the best in the world. I pay annualy for it so it is supported well and I get daily updates. What else can I say?

Another thing, if you think an update is bogus, go direct to the website of the product and look for updates and download them there. Or, you can use the program itself to update from. Most if not all provide an icon for 'check for update'. That usually works best.
